5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best tasting coffees
I’m truly impressed by this decaf as it is smooth and flavorful. I’m sure I’ll reorder when the stick is used up. Truly happy with taste.

5.0 out of 5 stars VERY GOOD Quality at a Terrific Price!
We have a ‘Nespresso Essenza Mini’ espresso machine. We typically order our espresso pods from Nespresso. But sometimes due to cash flow we need a cheaper option. I’d heard good things about Lavazza so decided to try em out, and I’m so glad we did!

We got the decaf variety, in the blue & black box (Decaffeinato Ricco, Intensia 6). The pods work perfectly in our machine, we had no issues whatsoever. They arrived fresh and unexpired etc. The best part is… the quality is surprisingly par with Nespresso! Each pod creates a decent amount of crema, and the depth of flavor is rich and satisfying. The coffee/espresso doesn’t taste cheap or burnt like we experienced with Amazon’s brand espresso pods or Starbucks. We will DEFINITELY be purchasing these again! (As of now, April 2023, they’re approx 1/2 the price of Nespresso)

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than Illy + 2 corrections to this page
I prefer Illy’s whole bean coffee to Lavazza’s, so it surprised me to find out that the Lavazza decaf pods for Nespresso machines were tastier than Illy’s. Since they’re also less expensive, the choice is clear.

My two corrections to the Amazon page:

    1. There’s some mention here of the pods being plastic, but they’re now aluminum.

    2. This page indicates these pods are dark roast, but they are medium roast and taste like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very affordable and tasty decaf coffee pods!
We own a Nespresso Essenza Mini espresso machine. One of the main reasons we chose this machine over one of the newer and more high tech Nespresso Vertuo machines is that you don’t have to pay the ridiculously high price of ordering OEM pods from Nespresso. I like having the option of buying and trying pods from different manufacturers, so that I can find the best brand that offers great taste at a reasonable price.

I am very pleased with the Lavazza brand of decaf (and regular caffeinated) espresso pods. I’ve had no problems using these plastic pods in my Nespresso machine and I honestly can’t tell the difference between this brand of decaf espresso and other more expensive brands. Granted, I am not an espresso connoisseur, so this is just my lay person’s humble opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic flavor, poor crema
I have been drinking the Nespresso Ristretto decaf for years, but after trying the Lavazza espresso, I thought I’d try their decaf, too. I am admittedly a bit of a coffee snob, and I actually prefer these to the Nespresso decaf pods!

The flavor is stronger than the decaf Nespresso, which I’ve always found to be a bit insipid, compared to their “full-caf” options. It’s a smooth, bold flavor without any bitterness.

The only downfall is that it doesn’t get a great crema in comparison to the Nespresso decaf or even the Lavazza “full-caf.” There’s a little crema if you’re drinking it straight, but it disappears quickly if cream is added. Similarly, I tried using it for an espresso martini – good flavor, zero crema after shaking.

3.0 out of 5 stars Plastic capsulr
Rather disappointed I didn’t see it was plastic not aluminum. I typically order the sample pack of 60 and that has always been aluminum. I found out I am pregnant a few weeks ago and decided to order more decaf. I assumed it would be like the decaf in my sample box, but it isnt. I try to avoid plastic capsules regularly, but especially while pregnant. The flavor is good, but just reviewing based on the capsules. (Some work well and some do not).

5.0 out of 5 stars Not really compatible with original nespresso
I should have read the most recent reviews… the capsule is not compatible. I turn on nespresso and get 1 good shot. I think because the machine has heated up, the subsequent capsules just pass through, so the coffee tastes more like Flavored water (likely because it does not flow through properly through the capsule). Ick.

Don’t buy this. I am going the other lungo is not so problematic.

This is usually good/great coffee. They need to fix the mfg specs.

1.0 out of 5 stars Didn’t work on my Nespresso DeLonghi machine
I’ve tried other brands of decaf pods, and they worked perfectly in my Nespresso DeLonghi machine. Unfortunately, these pods didn’t work properly. The machine was unable to pierce the capsule properly, and there was no pressure from the water to run into the capsule, causing a small coffee leak. I tried several times and different coffee sizes, but none of them gave me a different result. Unfortunately, my husband had already opened all the capsules and stored them in our coffee station. The boxes have already been thrown away, so I can’t return them anymore.
Anyway, I won’t buy this brand again.

1.0 out of 5 stars This specific coffee has gotten worse over the years.
I have been buying this coffee since 2019 and it used to be good coffee for being decaf. However, since 2022 I noticed a change in the flavor and quality of the coffee. The coffee doesn’t taste like it did 2-3 years ago. The coffee now taste rather bitter with a gross after taste that it has gotten so bad that I had to toss away the who pack of 60 pods. Terribly bad for a brand with a reputation like Lavazza which I tried many of its brand line coffees and they have all tasted good. The first time I tried this decaf version was when I ordered the variety pack which was still cheaper than the Nespresso variety brand. This Lavazza is still cheaper than the Nespresso but it is loosing its quality and flavor.

Additionally, I noticed the box that has all the small boxes in has a different expiration date than the individual box. For example, the big box has an expiration date on April 30 2023 while the individual box of 10 pods has a 2024 expiration date which I find weird because I am not if the lot/batch will expire in 2023 or 2024.

The quality for the price justifies the lack of flavor, consistency, and quality of this coffee. You are getting 60 pods for $25 or under which for me sounds a bit fishy. The flavor, quality and even the expiration date are quite questionable. I will not buy this brand again because I cannot tolerate the nasty after flavor it is leaving in my palate. Totally gross coffee I can tell right away it has been sitting on Amazon’s warehouse for months if not years and that’s why they sell it so cheap.

If you are on a budget and don’t care about the flavor and quality then go for it but if you can spend $20 more you might as well buy a better brand. I cannot say Nespresso is the best coffee out there because it is not we have to think these pods are made to last for years they are not made fresh. However, Nespresso at least has the quality and flavor in comparison to this one.

Sit a moment and taste your coffee and see how it tastes after you drink it alone with no milk or sugar and see if you can taste a nasty aftertastes almost bitter and artificial flavor. If you do then you know what I am talking about. If you have tasted other brands and coffees you can tell the difference between a good coffee and a bad one. Good luck!

2.0 out of 5 stars Poorly packed coffee.
The coffee in each aluminum pod is packed in a way where water barely passes through in the Nespresso machine. There other style pod was much better. It was harder to set in the unit but was packed properly. Very poor choice not up to standards of Lavazza.

  11. Bruce E (verified owner)

4.0 out of 5 stars Taste is strong
Flow through the espresso machine is very good. The plastic pod gets slightly stuck compared to the Nespresso aluminum pod. I’ve had decaf Lavazza and caffeinated and both are very good. This product is superior to Cafe Borbone another Nespresso generic.

3.0 out of 5 stars Best decaf for Nespresso *update*
Recently I’ve had to give up on “regular” espresso and switch the decaf. The Ricco is by far the best tasting decaf, better than any of the Nespresso selections. I have a CitiZ from 2011? or so that works fine with these plastic capsules. I believe they are meant to be a short pull, not a “lungo”, but I run them as a lungo anyway. I am going through my 8th box of the capsules and I have had maybe 2 failures, but that isn’t really different from the branded Nespresso capsules.
*UPDATE* I have dropped the rating down – not because I don’t like the taste or because I have a problem with the capsules but because the caffeine content in these decaf pods has been causing me problems, it is much higher than the standard Nespresso pods. Going back to regular Nespresso pods, which is too bad because I thought these were the best-tasting decaf pods I’ve ever had.

Nice flavors for decaffeinated nepresso coffee pods

  14. AvidReader (verified owner)

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite decaffeinated coffee
The options for decaffeinated coffee are sparse so once I find a brand and flavor that I like, I stick to it. I have been reordering this for years and it never disappoints. Fits seamlessly with my Nespresso coffee maker and tastes great.

  15. Torrey Pines (verified owner)

3.0 out of 5 stars Could be more flavorful; an intensity of 3
It’s okay, not great. I like Nespresso decaf better, and, it’s much more expensive and it, too, is not the greatest (too bitter for me, which in Italy is what’s preferred). For the money this product is workable. Would I get it again? It’s unlikely but I’ll get more Nespresso decaf and compare.

  16. Joseph Spencer (verified owner)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good coffee; only one issue
As expected, this coffee is very good. Only issue is that the coffee comes out of the pod very slowly (compared to Nespresso and other third-party pods). Not a big deal, just a bit annoying at times. BTW I use a Citiz machine.

  17. Cali Customer (verified owner)

4.0 out of 5 stars Really nice!
It’s a medium strength with full flavor and a rich crema. I am a Nespresso “snob” but this is really good.

I can’t give it a 5 star because every so often one of the capsule’s jams and they can’t be used. I also don’t think they are recyclable like Nespresso and I don’t know the long term effect on the machine due to the capsules having a different form, coffee powder and all.

But taste wise, these are very good.

  18. Joie (verified owner)

1.0 out of 5 stars These pods are unusable
There’s not enough pressure in the capsule (or the material is too flimsy?) to draw an actual shot of espresso– it only produces a few drops at a time. This is not my normal experience with Lavazza– all my other pods have worked/tasted fine, but these particular decaf pods are unusable.

  19. Paula from Staten Island (verified owner)

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally a rich and dark decaffeinated espresso.
It works perfectly with my first generation Nespresso machine, comes out so rich and flavorful. Even my coffee avoiding husband loves this made into a foamy latte. Even as a cup of Americano, it’s got great flavor and body. Would highly recommend this for those who can’t have caffeine but still want a strong cup. Excellent value as well.
If you only want a small shot of espresso you can get two cups from a single capsule, one for you and one for a friend.

  20. freshkicks (verified owner)

3.0 out of 5 stars Wouldn’t buy again
For the price these were great. But upon actual usage these soon became very frustrating. The body is plastic which make them lighter than usual pods. What tends to happen in my Nespresso, the pod will get stuck more often than not and won’t drop into the catch basket. I have to physically use a utensil to bang the pod to drop.

I’ve tried aftermarket pods from starbucks and pete’s without issue. Only these plastic pods from Lavazza have given me issues. Won’t be rebuying when these run out.
